The Ottawa Cancer Foundation Marks World Cancer Day 2025 with Announcement of New Community Ambassador Angie Poirier
Ottawa, ON — February 4, 2025 — On World Cancer Day 2025, The Ottawa Cancer Foundation is proud to announce the addition of local media veteran Angie Poirier as its new Community Ambassador. In light of her personal journey as the mother of an 8-year-old boy battling a rare form of cancer, Angie brings a deeply personal perspective to the Foundation’s efforts to raise awareness and funding to support the cancer community.
This year’s World Cancer Day theme, “United by Unique,” highlights the diversity of experiences and the strength of people facing cancer. As an oncology mom, Angie’s story embodies the resilience, courage, and hope that is central to this theme. Her son, Nash Cote, was diagnosed with a rare cancer, a journey that has shaped her into a fierce advocate for cancer awareness and the need for support outside of the hospital setting.
Angie’s involvement with The Ottawa Cancer Foundation stems from her desire to create a deeper connection within the community—uniting families, caregivers, and individuals impacted by cancer. Her personal journey and advocacy will further strengthen the Foundation’s mission to support people living with cancer, their caregivers, and their families through community-based care, resources, and programs. Poirier will share more on her family’s journey to date later this month on Sam Laprade’s An Hour to Give on February 22, and will be the keynote speaker at The Ottawa Cancer Foundation’s Annual Laugh for the Cure Fundraiser on March 27 at Rogers Centre.

“It’s an honour to partner with The Ottawa Cancer Foundation and play a role in the incredible work being done to support families aLected by cancer, like us,” says Angie Poirier. “As a mother who has lived through the trials of cancer with my son, I understand how crucial it is to have access to the services and resources The Ottawa Cancer Foundation provides. I’m excited to use my voice to help support their work. If you’re able to contribute, please consider supporting our vital work on World Cancer Day.”
The Ottawa Cancer Foundation encourages everyone to observe World Cancer Day by reflecting on their unique experiences with cancer and finding ways to unite in support of the ongoing battle against this disease. With the addition of Angie Poirier as Community Ambassador, the Foundation continues to foster a compassionate and collaborative approach to cancer care and support.
