ABOUT THE CANCER CHAMPIONS BREAKFAST

Since 2009, the Cancer Champions Breakfast has raised nearly $6 million in support of local families facing cancer. We look forward to gathering in person once again this September 21st at the Infinity Centre.

Without you, Ottawa wouldn’t be a hub of excellence for cancer care and research. Cancer patients across our region have the chance to live longer and better lives because you provide them with new therapies and personalized services, connecting patients, caregivers and families with essential resources in the community.

Investing in the Future of Cancer Research with Innovation

Advances in precision and personalized medicine are slowly leading to clear improvements in cancer prevention, screening, and treatment.

In 2022, your past generosity led to a $2.2-million grant to the Ottawa Hospital, accelerating targeted research and clinical trials for brain, ovarian, breast, lung, and blood cancers, among others. You helped:

  • Recruit patients for 108 cancer clinical trials
  • Administer 1,347 cancer patients through clinical trials
  • Treat 686 cancer patients in post-trial follow ups

At this year’s Champions Breakfast, you’ll meet some of the local heroes who are making a difference, thanks to your generosity. Hear from Dr. Natasha Kekre and her game-changing research with CAR-T immunotherapies, meet Dr. Arif Awan, a leading researcher in molecular oncology, and be inspired by Dr. Rebecca Auer’s vision for the future.

Treating the ‘Whole Person:’ A Better Approach with Community-Based Care

It is also a promising time in the awareness of treating ‘whole-person needs’ and the importance of complementing hospital research with non-medical, community-based support.

At our Maplesoft-Jones Survivorship Centre and Community Cancer Hub, which reopened this past June, our Cancer System Navigators offer information, referrals and a listening ear, and our programs remain free of charge for individuals living with cancer and their caregivers, thanks to the generosity of our donors.

From nutrition and exercise classes offered onsite to counselling and support groups, we can help patients, their families and caregivers connect to the services and programs that are right for them. Because community support is patient support!

At every stage, time is everything. It’s yours to give.

See you at the Cancer Champions Breakfast!
