20 Years of Discovery

What do the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation and the US Space Shuttle Discovery 19 have in common?
You might guess that it’s all about exploring new frontiers in our respective fields. Or maybe you’ve guessed that we share a mission to push limits and boundaries to advance research and discovery.
And while that’s certainly true – at least we’d like to think so – it’s actually a lot simpler than that. Both the Cancer Foundation and Discovery 19 launched in February of 1995, twenty years ago this year. But, while Discovery 19 successfully completed its mission and landed safely eight days after takeoff, our launch marked the start of a much longer mission.
2015 is a big year for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. It marks two decades that the Cancer Foundation has been listening to the needs of cancer patients and their families, along with oncologists and researchers – and twenty years that we have been working (tirelessly!) to ensure local families have access to the very best care, right here at home.
For twenty years, we have remained steadfast in our resolve to ensure cancer care and research continue to be a top priority year-round in our community.
And we couldn’t be more proud of the work we’ve done so far with the help of our generous donors.
So, to kick off this brand new 20th year, we are launching our new blog! We couldn’t think of a better way to show the impact of each dollar raised to date in our community, to keep you in the loop about all the latest news, or to show what we’ve got in store for the next twenty years!
We hope that this blog (coupled with our brand new website) provides you with the information and resources you need to continue supporting our work in the Ottawa region. If you have any questions or if there’s something you’d like to see in our blog, please let us know! Call 613.247.3527 or email enazarali@ottawacancer.ca with any feedback or suggestions.
Happy 2015! Looking forward to an incredible year.
