November 14 / 2023

Ottawa, ON [November 14, 2023]
– The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation is excited to announce a significant milestone in its journey of providing supportive cancer care in the Ottawa area. The organization is proud to unveil its new name – The Ottawa Cancer Foundation as well as its new Community Cancer Hub logo. This rebranding and new messaging aligns with the organization’s strategic goals and its commitment to “Transforming Supportive Cancer Care Together,” an evolution empowered by the June 1st, 2022 launch of the new Community Cancer Hub at the Maplesoft-Jones Centre, located at 1500 Alta Vista Drive.

A Renewed Commitment to Supportive Cancer Care
The Ottawa Cancer Foundation stands at the forefront of supportive cancer care, offering a comprehensive range of services that address the holistic needs of patients, caregivers, families and friends. Free of charge, our multidisciplinary team at the Community Cancer Hub delivers emotional, psychological, social, and symptom management support. Our services start with cancer system navigation and extend into individual counselling, pharmacy consultations, financial assistance, programs for children, support groups, nutrition guidance, caregiver assistance, return-to-work planning, end-of-life care, and bereavement support. These diverse programs are crafted to promote well-being and significantly enhance the quality of life for community members facing cancer.

The Ottawa Cancer Foundation is committed to ensuring equitable access to supportive cancer care for all members of our community, including equity seeking groups. Our organization is dedicated to breaking down barriers and expanding our reach to provide inclusive and accessible services. This commitment to inclusivity is a fundamental part of our mission as we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of all those affected by cancer in Ottawa.

Navigating the Cancer Healthcare System
Understanding the complexities and fragmentation of the healthcare system during cancer treatment is challenging. Our Cancer System Navigation program, steered by registered healthcare professionals, demystifies this process. It offers critical support in connecting patients with the necessary services, resources, and support, fostering health literacy, and aiding in overcoming healthcare barriers. This service ensures smoother transitions in care and empowers individuals facing cancer.

Dedication to Cancer Research
The Ottawa Cancer Foundation actively collaborates with local research institutions, connecting individuals with relevant studies, offering research grants where appropriate, and promoting knowledge sharing through seminars and workshops. This involvement also includes community consultations and increasing access to information on local research. The work of the Community Cancer Hub is evidence based, comprehensively evaluated and the data gathered will informs and improves outcomes. Our dedication to research is a testament to our resolve to drive innovation and address specific challenges within our community.

Join Us in Transforming Supportive Cancer Care
The Ottawa Cancer Foundation is more than just a name. It is a promise, a commitment to our community,” said Deborah Lehmann, President & CEO “With our evolving Community Cancer Hub and expanded services, we are not just supporting those affected by cancer; we are actively working towards transforming the access and quality of supportive cancer care in Ottawa.”

We invite the community to join us in this transformative journey.
