Paige Thurlbeck making history at age 12 (Article)

Dani-Elle Dube, Ottawa Sun: Paige Thurlbeck is only 12 and has already made history as the youngest recipient ever of the United Way’s Community Builder Award.

Thurlbeck, who raised more than $25,000 for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation since 2010, will see her name added among the 750 other community builder recipients on the Wall of Inspiration at City Hall Tuesday.

“I saw one of my friends cut off her hair for cancer and I wanted to do that too,” said Thurlbeck.

“So I started raising money with a group of friends and our families. We then grew into a big group over the years.”
