Making a Splash with OlymPINK

February 28 / 2023

The Ottawa Cancer Foundation is thrilled to partner with Andrea Douglas and Andrea Schwartz Smith, co-founders of OlymPINK, Masters Swim Challenge. Since the event was cancelled due to the pandemic in 2020, finally the team is excited to announce that the event will be back in person on Saturday, April 15th, 2023, at Brewer Pool here in Ottawa.

Now, this is more than your average swim meet. OlymPINK is a special swim competition (and fundraiser) for Masters’ swimmers with a special ceremonial swim of six Olympians along with breast cancer survivors.

This year, OlymPINK has chosen to partner with the Ottawa Cancer Foundation to support breast screening priorities at the Ottawa Hospital’s Rose Ages Breast Health Centre, as well as funding the important resources offered at the Ottawa Cancer Foundation to support individuals on their breast cancer journeys.

A little history on OlymPINK’s origin story – in 2014, co-founder Andrea Douglas was diagnosed with breast cancer. After receiving excellent care through the Ottawa Hospital including rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and hormone medication, Andrea recovered and wanted to do her part to help the thousands of people who are now fighting their own battles with breast cancer. For Andrea, it’s important to direct philanthropic donations to support breast cancer care and research locally – where we live, and where we receive care. Read more of Andrea’s journey and how OlymPINK came to be, here.
