Dani-Elle Dube, Ottawa Sun: It’s almost here.
After two years of watching it come to life before Ottawa’s eyes, Nordstrom will open its doors to shoppers Friday at Rideau Centre.
It’s going to be a big celebration, said company spokesman John Bailey.
“Just before we open our doors there will be a storewide countdown,” said Bailey, “and just as the first customers are being allowed in, we clap to welcome them. This is a tradition we do here at Nordstrom.”
Special promotional events will be held through the day, including a 7:30 a.m. Beauty Bash, when shoppers can learn about makeup before the store officially opens at 9:30 a.m.
Ottawa is the second Canadian city to receive a Nordstrom, following Calgary’s store opening on Sept. 19.
The store will sell apparel, shoes and accessories for women, men and children, housewares and gifts and a restaurant.
But before shoppers get a chance to spend their money on the higher-end goods, Nordstrom will host 1,800 people at an opening gala Wednesday night to raise funds for United Way Ottawa and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.
