April 10th to 16th is National Volunteer Week – let’s show some love!

If you’re reading this, one thing’s for sure: you care. You care that those we love who are facing cancer have access to the best support and treatments right here in our community. And to make that vision a reality, you choose to give.

You give a friend who’s recently diagnosed with cancer the phone number to reach a Cancer Coach. You give money so cancer research can lead to better, more targeted treatments.

And you give your time.

Without the amazing volunteers who lend us a hand year-round, we could never do so much to improve the journey of those with cancer. When someone comes into our Maplesoft Center, distressed by a recent cancer diagnosis, our volunteers are right there at reception to make sure they feel welcome and supported. They’re in the office every day, calling to thank donors for giving the funds that drive our vision. You’ll find them in the Foundation’s kitchen in December, baking cookies so we can recognize our many supporters. And they’re at every event, ambassadors of our cause, full of passion, pride, and optimism.

“When I talk about the Cancer Foundation,” says longtime volunteer Ann Ranson, “I say we-us-our in reference to it.  I feel I am part of an amazing organization. When I read about the opening of the Foundation’s Cancer Survivorship Center in the fall of 2011, I was impressed with it’s goals and thought it was an opportunity be part of such a worthwhile endeavour.”

Volunteers give their time so cancer patients in our region have more time: more time spent enjoying life with loved ones and friends, more time doing the things they’ve always dreamed of, more time watching nature come alive again for another year.

As we enter National Volunteer Week from April 10th to the 16th, let’s be sure to thank the volunteers in our lives. Take the time to chat with them – you’ll find their passion and enthusiasm are wonderfully inspiring!
